Amal Clooney Threatened With Arrest In Egypt After Defending Journalists

Oh no! George Clooney’s new wife was threatened with arrest in Egypt after exposing flaws in their judicial system, which she believes contributed to the conviction of three al-Jazeera journalists, Amal said in a new interview.
Amal Clooney almost landed herself behind bars in Egypt after exposing flaws in their judicial system. George Clooney‘s wife was actually warned she could be arrested for criticizing the government, Amal revealed in a new interview, but she went ahead with it anyway. Apparently, Amal’s findings were considered highly controversial, as the “flaws” led to the conviction of three al-Jazeera journalists — Peter Greste, Baher Mohamed, and Mohamed Fahmy.

“When I went to launch the report, first of all they stopped us from doing it in Cairo. They said ‘does the report criticize the army, the judiciary, or the government?’ We said ‘well, yes.’ They said ‘well then, you’re risking arrest,'” Amal told The Guardian after the journalists’ appeal this week, according to the Daily Mail.
