First model with Down syndrome in New York Fashion Week

Actress Jamie Brewer, best known for her roles on American Horror Story, appeared Thursday on a catwalk during New York Fashion Week.

Brewer was the first model in the show with Down syndrome.

Brewer wore clothing by designer Carrie Hammer as part of Hammer's "Role Models Not Runway Models" show, a project that invites inspiring women to showcase Hammer's work.

"We feature incredible influential women on the runaway. CEOs, executives, activist, actresses, anyone who is the top of the field, top of their game," Hammer told USA TODAY Network.

"Jamie is an absolute star," Hammer said, adding that the actress is also an activist for people with intellectual disabilities.

All of the women in the show wore clothing designed especially for them.

Brewer played a witch on American Horror Story so Hammer put her in black with an A-line cut. "Jamie has this beautiful figure with a small waist. A-lines really compliment that," Hammer said about the design.

The show took place at Lightbox, a digital arts and events space in New York City.

Brewer tweeted images of herself getting ready Thursday morning:

Prepare For The Mini-Karls - Lagerfeld Announces Kidswear Collection

Glove wearer, sunglass lover, father to Choupette, and now kidswear designer.

That’s right, Karl Lagerfeld has announced that he is launching a clothing line for children, to be unveiled in Spring 2016.

The collection will operate under the designer's own line in collaboration with Groupe CWF, who are already responsible for the childrenswear extensions of Chloé, Burberry, DKNY and Marc Jacobs.

A statement from the brand said: "The announcement reflects the brand's ongoing commitment to newness and will allow Karl Lagerfeld to share its ironic, playful, creative vision to a young audience

Pier Paolo Righi, CEO and president of the label added: "The Karl Lagerfeld Kidswear collection presents a unique opportunity to share our cool, ironic, iconic DNA with a wider Karl Lagerfeld audience.

"Due to our brand's wide appeal our expansion into the juniors market is a natural fit to further enhance our reach."

                                        A teaser sketch from Karl

The line will include ready-to-wear, and accessories for newborn to 16-year-old girls and boys. We're expecting a lot of monochrome, some Choupette embelishments and of course, some mini gloves.

We’re also hoping Karl picks his super-cute godson, Hudson Kroenig, to model the bi-annual collection.

Hudson, son of Chanel muse Brad Kroenig, is already well-acquainted with the world of fashion, having walked in various Chanel shows with his dad and Cara Delevingne.

Khloé Kardashian Just Broke The #1 Fashion Week Rule

News of Kanye West’s Adidas Fashion Week show first broke several days ago when a mysterious announcement popped up on Instagram. It didn’t take long for the leaked info to be scrubbed from the Internet — at Kanye's request, we assume — but now it appears that Yeezy is ready to share the news with the masses, even if it is by way of a relative's social media account.

Complex reports that last night Khloé Kardashian Instagrammed a photo of the physical invitation to her brother-in-law’s event, simply captioned: "Yeezy Season." The invite puts all the details out there, including location, time, and news of a performance by the artist Vanessa Beecroft. (Kanye, does this mean that everyone's invited?)

Beecroft is a frequent West collaborator, having worked with him on the imagery for his 2010 “Runaway” video-slash-short film, and, most recently, assisting with the concept for his “Only One” video. Needless to say, this definitely won’t be your average runway show. Now that all of the event information has been spread far and wide (the photo already has over 268,000 likes) we have a feeling there could be thousands fans of showing up to NYFW, hoping to experience Yeezy season, too.

Why it's a terrible idea for women to shave their faces

The Daily Mail’s ‘beauty experts’ say women should add shaving their faces to their skin routine. Here’s why you should ignore them

To shave or not to shave? Plenty of women might consider it daily for their legs, ’pits or pubes, but should we follow the advice of experts gathered by the Daily Mail and start shaving our faces? Absolutely not.

Whether you’re shaving to get rid of a slight ’tache or shaving your entire face to make it softer, regrowth as the result of a razor – compared with waxing, threading and depilatory creams – is a colossal ball-ache. And that’s the issue here: as a beauty editor, ensuring my nails don’t look like chipped micro-daggers, and maintaining my hair, makeup and de-fuzzing routine, is enough beauty admin – more than enough, in fact. Does any woman in the 21st century truly have the time or the inclination to shave her entire face for the sake of slightly softer skin?

In a world that chastises any hint of facial hair in women, having it can be distressing psychologically, which is why some women (in particular, those with polcystic ovary syndrome, which causes hirsutism) already resort to shaving their faces. The use of oral contraceptives to lower the androgen production can help, and creams such as Vaniqa slow down the rate of hair regrowth. Lasers (not IPL, which isn’t anywhere near as effective) are ideal for permanent hair removal, and more effective than shaving.

Skin tone also makes a difference to how much facial hair is visible. Asian hair is larger in diameter than caucasian or afro hair, and it’s more resilient (it has more layers of cuticles, making it stronger and thicker). But it also has a faster regrowth rate, and the myth that it will make your hair grow back thicker and faster persists among south Asians. (It doesn’t – it’s just more blunt at the ends, making it look that way.) Shaving doesn’t – in any way – affect the keratin cells that create the actual hair. Asian women also shed fewer hairs on their bodies than other races, which might make any hirsutism more pronounced.

As for the anti-ageing claims of shaving your face, they’re nonsense. Men have thicker, more youthful-looking skin because male androgens cause an increase in skin thickness of up to 25%, compared with women. Men also produce more sebum, which is oil that keeps the skin moisturised and plumper-looking. Finally, men have a higher density of collagen in their skin than women – which is why women age faster.

The bottom line, then, is that men and women are biologically programmed to age differently. Shaving might exfoliate their skin and supposedly keep it soft, but if you’re already using a washcloth, face brush or exfoliator on top, that’s serious scrubbing already. Shaving is not only inflammatory (causing sensitivity), but it also makes the skin look more papery and thin. Add a five-o’clock shadow to the mix and you’re undeniably causing your skin damage – and that’s ageing. Step away from the razor, ladies – it’s definitely not your friend.

Madonna wore a wacky Givenchy Couture matador costume to the Grammys and she flashed her toned butt to photographers. HollywoodLifers, did you think it was fun or totally gross?
Madonna, 56, hit the red carpet in a wild outfit in honor of her new single, “Living For Love” but she got fans talking even more when she gave everyone a peak of her bum! The mother-of-four lifted up her dress as she walked the red carpet and it was the last thing anyone expected her to do.

Madonna is set to be the first performer at the 57th Grammy Awards but we bet she’ll keep her CBS performance a bit more tame.

The singer performed in 2014 with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and she’s won seven Grammy Awards. It’s safe to say she’s a total pro when it comes to this show and she simply wanted to show off her perfect butt! We don’t blame her.

Madonna’s song is off her upcoming Rebel Heart album which is set to be released March 10. Her music video is super awesome and we hope her Grammy performance is just as entertaining. She plays a matador with a bunch of hot men in the music video and we bet she’ll do something similar during the show.

Zedd & Selena Gomez Attending Grammys? — Date Cancelled Due To Filming Schedule
“Zedd asked Selena to go and she said yes, but her shoot schedule has gotten in the way. They were trying to work it out so she could get a little time off to go, but it depended on how many scenes she got through. Unfortunately, she isn’t going to the Grammys,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.

Bummer. We were so excited to see Selena and Zedd attend the event together. It would have been a perfect opportunity for them to confirm they’re dating. Plus, it would demonstrate how serious they are about each other. But we understand — work comes first.

Selena Gomez: Her New Movie Is Her Priority
“Selena’s priority is her new movie. She’s very focused on it, and she needs to stay in Georgia. This movie is the top priority for her right now and Zedd totally understands that,” our source adds.

Zedd is so amazing. We know he really wanted to go to the Grammys with Selena, but he cares about her and her career. He’s proving how mature he is just by being so understanding.

We can’t deny we’re upset though.

Beyonce’s Glowing Skin At The Grammys — Get Her Look

All hail because Queen Bey just won the red carpet! The singer and overall stunner wowed with her absolutely glowing skin at the Grammy Awards. We loved how luminous she looked and are breaking down all her beauty details.
Beyonce, 33, stuns no matter what she does. Singing, dancing, acting – you name it, she does it well. So it was no surpise that she absolutely rocked the red carpet at the Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif. on Feb. 8! If you’re loving how glowing and natural she looked too then you’re in luck – we’re giving you all the details below.

Beyonce’s Grammy Awards Look — Glowing Skin
The most surprising aspect of Beyonce’s Grammy Awards beauty look was the fact that, well, she didn’t really have much of one – in the best way possible of course. The superstar rocked a totally natural vibe and looked positively glowing. We loved how clear and radiant her skin looked, especially. Her hair was in very loose waves with a center part, adding further emphasis on her natural vibe.

If you want to try and get skin as glowing as Beyonce’s we recommend trying L’Oreal Paris True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup. We love that this foundation is sheer, but can be built up to higher coverage if need be. Plus, it contains light reflective luminous ingredients that give skin a lit-from-within look.

Beyonce’s Grammy Performance
This just in – Beyonce will be performing at the Grammys. The triple-threat will reportedly sing “Take My Hand Precious Lord” and then perform a duet with John Legend and Common, of their Oscar-nominated song, “Glory” from the critically acclaimed film, Selma.

Meghan Trainor’s Retro Beauty At 1st Grammys — Exact Makeup

Meghan looked stunning as she walked the carpet with her Dad at the 2015 Grammy Awards! We spoke to her makeup artist — get her exact look below!
Meghan Trainor, 21, is all about that retro vibe! She rocked barrel curls and red lips for the Grammy Awards on Feb. 8 in Los Angeles. Read the how to right here!

Meghan Trainor At Grammy Awards — Get Her Exact Makeup
Celebrity makeup artist Alison Christian created the look using Clinique products and told HollywoodLife.com about the inspiration: “Megan’s dress was reminiscent of the 1940s and old Hollywood glamour. To complement that theme, we created a feminine look for her makeup and hair.”

Here’s how to get the look:

“The emphasis was on porcelain skin, winged linger and a red lip, which Meghan feels her best in. We made sure to keep the whole makeup look relatively young because after all, she’s only 21! I prepped her skin and applied Moisture Surge CC Cream Compact for that dewy and bright finish. I contoured a bit using the Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour to add some definition, and then dusted a bright pink blush (Cheek Pop in Berry Pop) on the apples of her cheeks.

For eyes, we loved the drama of ultra-long lashes and a warm shadow look. Meghan loves her winged liner, so I applied the Eye Defining Liquid Liner in Black for a sleek cat-eye. Because Meghan has such fair skin, we love a pop of color for her lips. We swiped on the Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Heftiest Hibiscus for extra moisture to make sure her lips stay hydrated all night. She has it in her clutch for easy touch-ups!”

Here is a full list of products used on Meghan:

Face: Moisture Surge CC Cream Compact Hydrating Colour Corrector Broad Spectrum SPF 25 in Very Light ($38), Cheek Pop in Berry Pop ($21), Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour in Curvy Contour ($21)

Eyes: Eye Defining Liquid Liner in Black ($16.50), All About Shadow Duo in Buttered Toast ($20), High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara in Black ($19.50)

Brows: SuperFine Liner for Brows Soft Brown ($16)

Lips: Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Heftiest Hibiscus ($17).

Meghan Trainor’s Mani — Nails At The Grammys
Celebrity Manicurist Kimmie Kyees created a heart shaped design on Meghan’s nails just in time for Valentine’s Day!

She used Red Carpet Manicure Candid Moments Gel Polish as the base and Red Carpet Manicure’s Ruby Gel Polish to create the red heart tips.

Here’s the exact how to from Kimmie:

“First, I prepped Meghan’s acrylic nails by filing, buffing & shaping into a point. Next, I used Red Carpet Manicure Prep, applied Red Carpet Manicure’s Structure Base Gel Coat and cured in Red Carpet manicure’s LED light for 30 seconds.

Next, I painted a coat of Red Carpet Manicure’s Candid Moments Gel Polish and cured for 45 seconds. Repeated for second coat.

Then using a striper brush, I placed a small dot of Red Carpet Manicure Ruby Gel Polish to the free edge. This tip marks the center of the heart.

Now play connect the dots! Using a striper brush, pull the color up to an even arch on both sides. Then color inside the lines using Red Carpet Manicure Ruby Gel Polish, then I added super fine red loose glitter to the heart, and cured for 45 seconds.

Apply Red Carpet Manicure Brilliance Top Coat, cure for 45 seconds.

Remove tacky residue with Red Carpet Manicure Purify Pre & Post Application Cleanser.”

Taylor Swift & Katy Perry: How They Avoided Each Other At Grammys After Party

Katy and Taylor went to great lengths to avoid each other at post-Grammy celebrations, HollywoodLife.com has learned EXCLUSIVELY. Find out all the details about the frenemy drama!
The bad blood between Katy Perry, 29, and Taylor Swift, 25, continues. Yikes.

“Word was that Taylor Swift was meant to show up, and Katy left before any of that could happen,” our source revealed after attending the Universal Music Grammy Party sponsored by American Airlines and Citi.

We already knew that Taylor was dreading an “awkward bump-in” with Katy at the Grammys, and it looks like Katy felt the same.

The drama between Katy and Taylor has escalated to a whole new level. Will they ever be friends? Katy recently dissed Taylor during her 2015 Super Bowl halftime show, and then Katy’s boyfriend John Mayer, 37, threw serious shade at Taylor on the Feb. 6 episode of The Late Late Show!

T-Swift was furious about John’s new diss and felt “bullied” by the crooner. Poor Taylor.

Well, they certainly weren’t celebrating music’s biggest night together, but Katy and Taylor had a great time on their own! Taylor brought back her epic dance moves and mended the rift with Kanye West after six years. She looked gorgeous in a long teal gown.

Meanwhile, Katy gave an emotional performance of “By The Grace Of God” during the show. She had a funny moment of PDA with Miley Cyrus — it totally looked like Miley was fondling her boob in her stunning beaded frock dress.

Gwen rocked one of our favorite looks on the red carpet! Her Atelier Versace  jumpsuit was stunning and the structured asymmetrical top gave the illusion of bare skin on one side — love this look. Nothing really comes close to this gorgeous piece, but you can get her sexy look with this Trina Turk Iona Jumpsuit.

Queen Bey also went for the sheer trend in a stunning Proenza Schouler gown, and even though she was criticized for wearing a similar style to the 2014 Grammys, she looked stunning in the black lacy dress.

Grammys Red Carpet Trend: Nude Lips & Beachy Waves
The clothing wasn’t the only thing that got sexy and sheer on the red carpet. Taylor ditched her signature red lip for a gorgeous nude shade and it looked beautiful against her colorful Eliee Saab gown.

One of our favorite nude shades is Lipstick Queen ‘Sinner’ in Pinky Nude. It’s goes on with a beauty creamy finish like Chrissy’s lipstick — who clearly got the nude memo. Chrissy must have also got the note for voluminous bed head waves, which was another huge trend of the evening!

Kanye West: Disses Kim Kardashian & Khloe Kardashian Right In Front of Them?

After the 2015 Grammys, Kanye went on a rant while being interviewed at the E! after party and he sort of totally dissed his wife and sister-in-law by saying that there’s only one reason why they are famous.
Kanye West was on a roll at the Grammys, Feb. 8 and it didn’t stop with him pretending to steal the mic from Beck after he won Album of the Year. Kanye and Kim Kardashian went to an after party hosted by E! and he not only made everyone take their mic flags off but he slammed Beck and started talking about why the Kardashians are famous in the first place.

Kanye West: Did He Diss Kim & Khloe Kardashian Right In Front of Them?
This is what Kanye said at the E! after party: “The Kardashians wouldn’t be famous if beauty wasn’t important.”

Wait, so you mean that Kim and her sisters aren’t scholars? Okay, we are joking but Kanye’s rant not only was unnecessary but hurtful on a lot of levels. Then he went on to say that the Grammys don’t appreciate real music and talented artists.

Kanye Slams The Grammys For Not Wanting ‘Real Artists’
Here’s what happened — Beck won Album of the Year and it really seemed to upset Kanye. He jokingly went on stage and pretended to almost pull a 2009 Taylor Swift moment when he stole the mic from her after her big win at the MTV VMAs. But even though we thought he was just being funny, it turns out that he was upset that Beck beat out Beyonce and he slammed him and the Grammys at the E! after party:

“The Grammys, if they want real artists to come back, they need to stop playing with us,” he ranted. “We ain’t gonna play with them no more. Flawless, Beyoncé video, and Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé. And at this point, we tired of it because what happens is, when you keep on diminishing art, and not respecting the craft, and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration. And we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day and they listen to that Beyoncé album, they feel like it takes them to another place, then they do this whole promotional event that, they’ll run the music over somebody’s speech, the artist, because they wanted commercial advertising.”

Fashion Week is bigger than the Super Bowl for NYC

Often lost among the sea of fur coats, designer labels and stick-thin models each February is one key fact: New York Fashion Week, which kicks off Thursday, is a major revenue generator for the Big Apple.

But a new report by U.S. Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, D-N.Y., and the Joint Economic Committee of Congress highlights just how valuable the biannual event is for the city.

Models walk the runway during Nicole Miller at MBFW Fall 2014 in New York.

According to the report, New York Fashion Week pulls in nearly $900 million each year, including about $532 million in tourist spending. That means the event's total economic boost tops that of the New York City Marathon at $340 million, the 2014 Super Bowl in New Jersey at $550 million and the U.S. Open tennis tournament at $800 million.

"Fashion is so much more than style; it's big business that creates a vast array of good-paying jobs," Maloney said in a news release.

"Impeccable style not only epitomizes New York, it puts New Yorkers to work."
According to the report, about 900 fashion companies are headquartered in New York City, employing about 180,000 people. That accounts for about 6 percent of the city's workforce, nearly $11 billion in wages and $2 billion in tax revenue each year, said a report by New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio's office last year.

New York is also tops among U.S. cities for the number of fashion designers it employs, at 7,460, according to data from the Bureau of Labor statistics cited in the report from Maloney and the JEC. It's followed by Los Angeles with 4,470; San Francisco with 540; and Columbus, Ohio, with 518.

Although fewer than 300 fashion designers work in Illinois, it's the top-paying state for that profession, with an annual mean wage of $93,850. New York ranks second at $81,450, followed by Maine, Missouri and New Hampshire.
